Earthquake-prone Building Policy

The Earthquake-prone Building Policy is available for comment.

Council is required to have a policy on earthquake prone buildings under section 122 of the Building Act 2004.

The policy is required to state the approach that the Council will take in performing its functions under the Act, Council’s priorities in performing those functions and how the policy will apply to heritage buildings.

The documents concerning the policy and thr submission form are available on the Council’s website homepage www.rangitikei.govt.nz.

Like the Draft Annual Plan 2011-2012 there are different types of submission forms (PDF version, Word 2007 version and an electronic version).

The documents and submission forms as well as being on the website are available from Council Offices and Libraries.

Submissions closed at 4pm Friday 15 April 2011. Any questions please contact the Council on 0800 422 522.

Please feel free to answer the following questions*. Also please comment on the post if you wish.

* Plese be aware that the poll responses and comments on this post will not be considered as submissions to the Earthquake-prone Building Policy.

The Council owns and operates a number of buildings which do not comply with current earthquake resistance standards.

I think that council should only be paying for buildings they own.
Private property owners with at risk buildings should be given a timetable to strengthen their properties.
Of course, I’m open minded about true heritage buildings.
