Mr Beaven was the Mayor from September 1st 1879 to March 18th 1880.

Here’s a little information from archives:

‘Mr Frederick Beaven came to the Dominion as a lad and arrived in Marton in the early “fifties.”

He was in charge of a store in Wellington Road and built up a strong business, leaving here (Marton) for Palmerston North in 1883.

As Marton’s first Mayor he set a fine standard for that high office and took an active interest in the young Borough’s affairs.

He died in Wellington in 1922′.

Council is required to have a policy on earthquake prone buildings under section 122 of the Building Act 2004.

The policy is required to state the approach that the Council will take in performing its functions under the Act, Council’s priorities in performing those functions and how the policy will apply to heritage buildings.

Like the Draft Annual Plan 2011-2012 there are different types of submission forms (PDF version, Word 2007 version and an electronic version).

The Council owns and operates a number of buildings which do not comply with current earthquake resistance standards.

The Annual Plan is a document showing what Council plans to do for the coming year and what changes are being proposed to the budget (forecasted in the LTCCP).

Follow up meetings for each of the theme groups have been organised.  Unlike the conference, where delegates had to choose one theme to be involved in for the whole day, please feel free to attend as many theme group meetings as are of interest to you.  Also, if you were unable to attend the day conference but are still interested in being a part of any projects moving forward or having input, you are more than welcome to attend theme group meetings.

Council is reviewing its liquor control bylaw, the liquor licensing policy, and the control of skateboards bylaw.  It invites public submissions on these documents. 

The revised liquor control bylaw and policy is aimed at reflecting the views of the community.  These bylaw changes are very timely given the Law Commission’s recommendation to tighten the laws around who can buy and sell liquor and where and when it may be sold.  Council hopes residents will say what they think needs to happen in the District. 

The draft Bylaw proposes to extend the current liquor ban areas in Marton, Taihape and Hunterville and to introduce liquor ban areas in Bulls and Rātana. It also proposes to extend the liquor bans to cover vehicles parked within the specified areas.

Council has also reviewed its bylaw on skateboarding.  The draft Control of Skateboarding Bylaw proposes to maintain the areas of control in Marton, Taihape and Hunterville and to introduce a control area in Bulls.  Council will be seeking the views of young people with a particular interest in skateboarding.

The period of consultation on all three documents is Saturday 1^st May until 4 pm on Tuesday 1^st June 2010. Copies of the draft documents and submission forms are available from all Council offices, from the website www.rangitikei.govt.nz or by ringing 0800 422 522.

This will cost more than returning Dudding Lake to a recreational park, the same as when it was originally gifted.  It was Council’s decision to take this course of action (estimated at around $10,000 per annum) that prompted the creation of Duddings Lake Ltd.  Their proposal would see the house and power remain at Dudding Lake, and ratepayers would contribute a grant of $25,000 per annum, as well as paying around $10,000 in other expenses.

Council is seeking further information on the financial aspects of the business, and has asked the officers to negotiate a management contract with Duddings Lake Ltd. 

However, the final decision will not be made until Council has been able to consider all terms of any contract, and not before Council’s meeting on 29 April.  The public is also encouraged to make their views known before then.  Take a look at the documents below, make your views known via the polls or leave a comment.
